White House Historical Christmas Ornament 1999 Lincoln
This White House Historical Association Christmas ornaments is from 1999 comes in the original box and folder giving history of the ornament honoring President Lincoln. For this ornament, Lincoln's image is taken from the posthumous portrait by George Healy. Commissioned by Congress for the White House, it hangs over the fire place in the State Dining Room. This 1999 White House Historical Association Christmas ornament celebrates Abraham Lincoln. The paperwork says "No president has left a more enduring mark on the White House than Abraham Lincoln. He rose from the grassroots to guide his country through its greatest crisis, the Civil War, and under his leadership the broken union was mended for all time.". The ornament features a gold toned rectangular shape that opens like a book or locket. On the front it reads the White House and below, Christmas 1999. In the center is a porcelain oval or cameo that features the Lincoln seated. The opened portion features a frame around the Lincoln Cameo that is a replica of the frames found on Civil War era Tintypes. The back reads President Abraham Lincoln 1861-1865 Made in USA as well as the Copyright information indicating it was copyrighted 1999 WHHA. It comes with the original box and paperwork and may have been lovingly hung on an earlier tree. The box, paperwork and ornament are in excellent condition.
